Ed and I began raising miniature donkeys in 1999. We
wanted to raise animals for extra income. As a Chiropractor
that has been in practice for 20 years, I also knew that I needed
to start planning for retirement. I did not want to raise anything
that would be eaten, so we decided on Miniature Donkeys.
We knew it costs just as much to feed and raise
a cheap miniature donkey as a Champion donkey, but the Champion
one would sell for much more. We did extensive research into
bloodlines and conformation, and decided to concentrate on
black, sorrel and dark brown donkeys of excellent conformation
and pedigrees. Our goal is to maintain three to four Champion
herdsires, with a stable of 25 jennets of excellent breeding. It
takes many years to acquire excellent donkeys, because no one wants
to sell their best. We logically approach each breeding and
try to match the best jack with an exceptional jennet to better
the breed. Quality really does breed Quality. The proof of
this is that in 5 years we have a National Champion, several
State Champions and a World Champion Donkey.
All of our foals are handled daily,
and are imprint trained at birth. They are sold with a new lead
and halter, are trained to lead and stand for their hoof trimming
and are regularly vaccinated.
We transfer the NMDA papers into the new owner's name and
will help the new owners after the sale with any questions
or advice. We are always trying to better the herd, so if
you see a donkey that you like that may not be listed on the
"For Sale" page, please do not hesitate to contact
us. We might need some room in the barn to keep one of our foals
instead! We are only 12 miles from downtown Dallas,
so stop by and visit.
